Take action to help Manna fight hunger during September, Hunger Action Month

September is Hunger Action Month, a time dedicated to taking action in the fight against hunger. Manna Food Bank, a local grassroots non-profit organization dedicated to fighting hunger in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties, joins the Hunger Action Month campaign to inspire people to take action and raise awareness of the local hunger crisis. Hunger Action Day is Tuesday, September 10.

Manna fights hunger in Northwest Florida year-round by providing the healthiest food possible at no charge through its Emergency Food Assistance Pantry and 17 food security programs with 25 community partners. These programs and partnerships with a variety of agencies address the hunger-related needs of some of the most vulnerable people in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. Every action to fight hunger makes a difference for neighbors in need.

Here are five ways to support Manna and engage in the fight against hunger during Hunger Action Month:

1. Make a financial contribution! Manna can provide three healthy, balanced meals to a person in need with just $5.

2. Donate nonperishable food items! Manna’s current most-needed items include:

  • Canned Fruit in 100% Juice (20 oz. or smaller)
  • Canned Mixed Vegetables (16 oz. or smaller)
  • Oatmeal (boxes of single serve packets)
  • Peanut Butter (To-Go Cups and 28 oz. jars or smaller)
  • Microwaveable Meals (e.g. Hormel Compleats)
  • 100% Fruit Juice Boxes or Bottles (8 oz. or less)
  • Chicken and Tuna (canned and pouches)

3. Sign up to Host a Food Drive! Manna relies on healthy food donations to support our neighbors in need. (You can even earn volunteer hours for hosting a food drive!)

4. Volunteer! Manna hosts both individual volunteers and groups of volunteers.
